In the 18th century, Earl Wilhelm von Schaumburg-Lippe had built the sea fortress Wilhelmstein on an artificial island in the “Steinhuder Meer”. The star-shaped entrenchment with four bastions and one citadel, with canons and casemates is a traditional tourist destination on the biggest lake of Lower Saxony. Several premises for conferences, trainings and catering are located here. Even the outdoor area is at your disposal. The panoramic view from the observatory to the middle of the fortress is very breathtaking. The ride with the “Auswanderern” is an experience. The home port of these historic sailing boats is “Steinhude”, a well-known place for sailors and surfers. Here you can see other sights like the old barn quarter “Scheunenviertel” and the “Schmetterlingsfarm” (farm with butterflies).
