Research networks

Universities and colleges, scientific institutions and companies work closely together in Hannover.

Science and academia are closely networked in many spheres of activity in Hannover. The Rebirth and Hearing4all clusters of excellence are being funded in Hannover as part of the German government's Excellence Initiative. The Rebirth cluster of excellence links together the Hannover Medical School, the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, the Leibniz University of Hannover, the Hannover Laser Centre, the Fraunhofer Institute of Toxicology and Experimental Medicine, the Mariensee Institute for Animal Breeding, the Max Planck Institute of Münster (MPI) and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig as well as the Twincore Centre for Experimental and Clinical Infection Research.

Hearing4all cluster of excellence

In 2012, the Hearing4all cluster of excellence was adopted into the funding programme. The lead institution in the consortium that focuses on hearing is Oldenburg University, which submitted the successful application together with the Hannover Medical School and the Leibniz University of Hannover. The Hannover and Oldenburg Hearing Centres as well as the Hannover Laser Centre charitable institution are also involved.

Quest and HBRS

Funding for the QUEST centre of excellence as well as for the Hannover Biomedical Research School came to an end in 2012. The Hannover Medical School is continuing to manage the Hannover Biomedical Research School.

Biomedical technology: Interdisciplinary networking

For a good decade now, biomedical technology in Hannover has benefited from interdisciplinary networking – the Medical School, the University of Veterinary Medicine, the Leibniz University and the Hannover Laser Centre combine natural and engineering sciences with proven cutting-edge medicine within a unique constellation. Since 2009, the partners have pooled their expertise in the Lower Saxony Centre for Biomedical Engineering, Implant Research and Development (Nife).

Cooperations between Hannover Medical School (MHH) and the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo)

Throughout Germany, the Hannover Clinical Trial Center GmbH offers professional management of clinical studies according to international standards. The HCTC was formed from a joint venture between hannoverimpuls and the Hannover Medical School. Two other cooperation centres of the Hannover Medical School, the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover and the Leibniz University of Hannover are the Centre for Infection Biology (with the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, Braunschweig) as well as the Centre for Systems Neuroscience.

Research centres of the Leibniz University

The Leibniz University of Hannover has established several research centres. Amongst others, these include: the Centre of Garden Art and Landscape Architecture, the Laboratory of Nano and Quantum Engineering (LNQE), the Research Centre Hannover Centre for Mechatronics (MZH), the Centre for Solid-State Chemistry and New Materials (ZFM) and the Centre of Biomolecular Drug Research (BMWZ).

Centres of excellence of the Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts

The Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts is developing a diverse range of inter-faculty and inter-institute centres of excellence. The interdisciplinary education is a significant aspect of this. The centres of excellence include the following: the Centre of Excellence for Energy Efficiency, the Centre of Excellence of the Institute for Applied Health, Education and Social Research, the Centre of Excellence Planet MID and the Centre of Excellence AUBIOS.
