Renowned financial service providers such as Swiss Life and Nord/LB have a presence in the Leine city with headquarters and subsidiaries - as well as Deutsche Hypothekenbank. Furthermore there is the Bankhaus Hallbaum - a branch of Bankhaus M.M.Warburg & CO. The distinctive architecture of the headquarters of Nord/LB make quite an impression on Hannover’s cityscape. The most important credit institutions in the region are the savings banks and credit unions. Sparkasse Hannover bank is one of the biggest credit institutes subject to public law in Germany. More credit institutes: Sparda Bank and Hannoversche Volksbank.

Hannover is also the home of Lower Saxony’s stock market and a subsidiary of the German Central Bank. In total, the key industry of financial services provides a significant proportion of employment in the Hannover region (5.2%), with around 25,000 people employed by 830 businesses.
