Marilyn (Ballett)

Norma Jeane Mortenson, better known as Marilyn Monroe, wanted to be famous and grew from a brunette worker in an armaments factory to the most famous blonde in the world. Even today, there is still a bitter struggle for perception, which Jörg Mannes expresses in his choreography "Marilyn".

Style icon, film diva and the dream of all men: Marilyn Monroe was the star of the 1950s. But her fame also had its downsides: Drugs, self-doubt and an untimely death. In his ballet evening "Marilyn", ballet director and choreographer Jörg Mannes touches on the life of this woman in 23 scenes. Mannes looks at the Marilyn phenomenon from the perspective of our time, in which a universe full of selfies is all about doing justice to the images we have created ourselves.

Background

For the whole world Marilyn Monroe is the gorgeous, naive blonde. After movies like "Niagara", "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", "How to Marry a Millionaire" and "Some Like it Hot" she finally gained recognition as a character actress with the drama "The Misfits".

Her leading role, the media star, was hard earned. Shifted back and forth between her biological mother, foster parents, orphanage and a widowed aunt, the shy Norma Jeane Mortenson - her real name - develops into a teenager beauty. As a worker in an armaments factory, she was photographed for a pin-up calendar and soon became a sought-after model and model.

Film studio bosses work together with the 22-year-old on the image of the Marilyn Monroe. This also includes minor surgical procedures and bleached hair. Nude photos create a scandal, and Marilyn's quick-wittedness brings additional publicity. Her comedic talent is causing a sensation, and her popularity is rising rapidly.

Behind the Facade

Behind Ikona Marilyn Monroe hides a woman the world knows little about. Insiders describe her as well-read, interested in art, socially and politically engaged. But the public interest is in the three marriages and the Monroe's love relationships. Above all, her relationship with US President John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert remains the subject of speculation to this day, as does her sudden death - suicide or murder?
