The whole city fully focusses on this major Lower Saxony running event.
The HAJ Hannover Marathon in and around the heart of the city has gained an absolutely positively top standing. Around 16,000 athletes put on their running shoes every year to test themselves along any of the various routes while at the same time discovering the sights of the city at a running pace.
The route passes many Hanover sights and highlights
Above all, runners over the classic distance of 42.195 kilometres are almost predestined to run a personal best time along the extremely flat route that passes many Hanover sights and highlights. The event has its start and finish immediately in front of one of the most impressive city halls in Europe. The route passes passes the HDI Arena and on to the over three kilometre long Maschsee.
It continues along the idyllic Eilenriede, past the “Hanover Adventure Zoo“ and on to "Herrenhausen Gardens". Also directly on the route are the opera house, the Guelph Palace housing the Hannover University, the buxom Nanas, the "old" City Hall in the old town and the Market Church.
