Hannover: The Maschsee Lake Festival Brings a Touch of Maritime Flair!

No sooner is the world's biggest marksmen's fair (Schützenfest) over than it's time for the next big event in Hannover.

From 27thJuly to 14th August, the Maschsee Lake Festival will bring its own brand of maritime flair to the capital of Lower Saxony. Now in its 26th year, this lakeside event, which attracts over 2 million visitors annually, will transform the banks of Hannover's Haus Lake into a colourful boulevard. During the 19 days of the festival there will be a real holiday atmosphere around the Maschsee Lake where visitors will be able to sample many different types of food and enjoy free concert highlights. There will also be numerous sporting events on the water like the "Crazy crossing" boat race or the torch swimming and then... what better way to finish the day than spending an evening dancing beneath the stars? Add to this an exciting programme of events for children, cabaret acts and comedy turns and you have an event that offers something for everyone.

The star of the show again this year is the Maschsee Lake itself: visitors will be able to re-discover the joys of this nearly 0.8 km[2] stretch of water as they enjoy a boat trip, relax by the water sipping cocktails or just enjoy a stroll along the promenade.

And now a creative new catering concept is bringing a breath of fresh air to the traditional festival restaurants - visitors can now enjoy their food in a maritime setting complete with pirates, lighthouses or beach lounges right on the water's edge. "Invite your friends, relax, enjoy the atmosphere and have fun - the Maschsee Lake Festival is the perfect place to do just that", says Hans Christian Nolte, managing director of Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG), the company organising the festival for the first time. Nolte goes on: "We are hoping that this lakeside event will encourage large numbers of enthusiastic guests to come and visit Hannover and discover what we have to offer".

Visitors will be entertained by a continuous programme of concerts to be performed on the four large stages which surround the lake: the Maschsee Lake Festival is looking forward to acts such as country legend Gunter Gabriel and Latin singer Loona (29thJuly), while Sharon Phillips and her band will be delighting audiences in the Temple Bar on 6th August. Also worth a special mention are concerts by Pat Appleton, the "Lounge Queen" of De-Phazz (3rd August), and Juliano Rossi (12th August). On Sundays, jazz lovers will be in their element as the sound of jazz and swing music is heard all around the lake. And don't forget to look out for our popular Maschsee Festival regulars "Sweety Glitter & The Sweethearts" and "Lotto King Karl & The Barmbek Dream Boys".

Younger visitors, too, will have plenty to entertain them during the festival with a varied programme of activities put together by our partners Hannover 96, the St John's Ambulance and the IdeenExpo led by the children's entertainment and experience education company Xiè-Xiè. Kids can enjoy all the activities outside in the new 'Children's Meadow'.
