Great Garden Herrenhausen
City tour
Royal Garden Ensemble
This miracle of baroque gardening style owes its existence to a most unusual woman: Electress Sophia of the Palatinate. Inspired by the Sun King Louis XIV, she ordered the landscaping of this approx. 180 acre garden in the French style at the end of the 17th century. It became her life's work. Today more than 400,000 visitors a year enjoy the special flair of the best preserved baroque garden in Europe.
