A Midsummer Night's Dream

The vagaries of love in the depths of an enchanted forrest: Michiel Dijkema directs Benjamin Britten's opera in the Staatsoper Hannover.

"A Midsummer Night's Dream" is one of Shakespeare's most famous plays. In January the Schauspiel Hannover showed their variation of this romantic comedy for the first time and now the Staatsoper Hannover follows with the première of Benjamins Britten's work on the madness of love.

The Opera

Four young people get lost in a nightly forrest. They all are in love, but not in a promising way. Helena's love for Demetrius, for example, is not returned, because Demetrius is in love with Hermia. But she is the mistress of lysander.

The chaos of love even gets increased when the king and queen of the fairies, Oberon and Titania, enter the scene and Puck their humble servant uses an effective potion.
