Continental AG, now a global corporation, originated in Hannover and is inextricably linked to it.
Founded as a tyre producer in 1871, Continental AG now makes much more than tyres to keep vehicles moving all over the world. The company has long since become a full-range supplier of almost everything needed for vehicle production. It maintains 595 sites in 59 countries and employs more than 240,000 people.
For its 150th anniversary, the company plans to open new headquarters near the Pferdeturm. An architectural highlight is the cantilever bridge connecting the building complexes on both sides of Hans-Böckler-Allee.
In addition to tyres, Continental also produces brake systems, systems and components for powertrains and chassis, and vehicle electronics. The company, immediately recognisable by its famous horse logo, has its roots in Hannover, where it employs approximately 7,500 people, making it one the largest employers in the state capital.
