To welcome visitors to Hannover for the World Cup in 2006, a whole tunnel full of graffiti appeared in the Waterloo underpass between the subway station and the stadium.

Welcome to Hannover - Graffiti im Waterloo-Tunnel

Graffitis in der Waterloo-Unterführung:

If you’ve ever been to the HDI Arena for a football match or a concert, you’ll be familiar with the graffiti in the Waterloo underpass. During the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, Hannover hosted five matches. To make the journey to the new stadium much more inviting, the previously dreary Friederikentunnel, a pedestrian underpass on the way to the HDI Arena, was transformed into a creative space for a whole host of street artists.

See the Fassadenkunst (Facade Art) website for more information on the World Cup tunnel project.
