On the eastern shore of Lake Maschsee - Visit Hannover
Sunrises and sunsets
On the eastern shore of the Maschsee
An evening of celebration in the summer sunshine by the lake in the middle of the city: ice cubes clink in the wine glass, dice clatter across the game board, there's a tempting aroma of fresh bread and grilled vegetables, and good mood music sounds from somewhere.
View of Maschsee
When it’s really warm again and the sky promises a spectacular sunset, there’s probably no better place in all of Hannover to relax, enjoy a meal, and take in the view than the Maschsee.
Romantic rendezvous with a picnic by the water
If you want to enjoy the sunset over the Maschsee in all its glory and colors, you should look for a good spot on the eastern Rudolf-von-Bennigsen-Ufer. While it’s not quite as quiet and green there as on the car-free western shore across the way, on a nice day you’ll have a wonderful view of the colorful evening sky over the 2.4-kilometer-long and up to 530-meter-wide lake. An ideal spot for a romantic rendezvous with a picnic by the water is the long wooden pier behind the yachting school. You can usually find a free spot to spread out a blanket there—unless the Maschsee Festival is being celebrated in the summer.
Almost three weeks of sunshine reggae around the lake
In 2022, the Maschseefest will finally be celebrated again; Lower Saxony’s largest and longest open-air party will take place from July 27 to August 14. If you’d like to go on a “cruise” from one shore or wooden pier to the other, you can comfortably sail across the Maschsee on Üstra’s passenger boats. The pier on the east shore is just a few steps away, on the other side of the yachting school, right next to the cozy beer garden of the Pier 51 restaurant-bar. Tickets are available on board from the captain; additional stops for the Maschsee fleet are located, clockwise from there, on the south shore at the beach, at the spring, at the west pier near the Fährhaus, at the stadium, and at the Fackelträger on the north shore.
