Calenberg New Town

Calenberger Neustadt is Hanover’s “largest island.” At the confluence of the Ihme and Leine rivers, “students” relax amid the trendy beach scene or along the green riverbanks. A mainstay of Hanover’s cultural scene is the Leibniz Theater on Kommandanturstraße. To the south, the Schützenfest, Oktoberfest, and Frühlingsfest, as well as major sports and event venues like the Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena, Swiss Life Hall, and Gilde Parkbühne, beckon—pure excitement.

Calenberger Neustadt delights food lovers with its many different cafés and restaurants, such as Curry Culum, Beckmanns Weinhaus, Sushi Bar Gim, Loretta's, Café Safran, Piu Espresso Bar & Trattoria, BocaChica, and the Waterloo Biergarten.

Nightlife

There’s no shortage of nightlife in Calenberger Neustadt either: Café Glocksee, in particular, has made a name for itself with spectacular live concerts. But at the Strandleben beach club, too, comfortable lounge chairs await anyone who wants to let the day slip away while relaxing on the sand and get in the mood for the evening. Herzblut is also a great place to kick off the evening.

City life

This is where men’s dreams come true: idee+spiel offers a night of poker, darts, and foosball. The Leibniz Theater transports you into the world of cabaret, comedy, variety shows, and timeless literature, and at the Calenberger Radkultur bike shop, cycling enthusiasts will find everything their hearts desire. Just a stone’s throw away, on the banks of the Leine, you’ll find the Hannover Flea Market every Saturday, where you can stroll, haggle, and browse.

In Calenberger Neustadt, attractions include the Neustadt Court and City Church, St. Clemens Basilica, and the Museum of Energy History(ies), where you can generate your own electricity. The Blue Thread tour also takes you past the most important sights in Calenberger Neustadt.

Nature

Calenberger Neustadt stretches along the Ihme and Leine rivers. From this central neighborhood, you can also quickly reach the Maschteich, Maschsee, or the Georgengärten.

Shopping

Calenberger Neustadt is directly adjacent to the old town, where numerous boutiques and larger stores await. The city center itself is also just a few minutes' walk away.
