Places of remembrance

Throughout the city of Hanover, numerous memorial sites bear witness to the Nazi era and its aftermath.

The term "place of remembrance" is not limited to the physical and spatial location: it also includes collective memories of events, personalities, rituals or symbols that create identity for the respective collective and regularly evoke and bind collective memories. These places of remembrance play a special role in the public commemoration of the National Socialist era, its victims and its consequences, and for the democratic foundations of our society.
