Wander through the crowds on the market square and listen to the hustle and bustle of 1900!

The illustrated simulation is intended to give the viewer the impression of a bustling square, thereby offering a contrast to life on the square today. Not only can the number of people be compared, but also the language, its impact, and the fashion of around 1900. The viewer should be inspired to push their way through the crowd and perhaps eavesdrop on conversations.

Originally, the Old Town was the liveliest part of Hanover, and so was the square in front of the Marktkirche. This was not only due to the church services and its location, but also thanks to the numerous markets. The clothing worn by the people shown here is based on photographs of the market from around 1900. At that time, clothing was primarily dyed using natural materials, which meant that the colors most commonly worn were from the dark-hued spectrum.
