Nikolai Chapel
Visit one of Hanover’s oldest buildings through a digital reconstruction and exhibition.
The ruins of the Nikolai Chapel (photo from March 2012)
For the AR reconstruction of St. Nicholas Chapel, I created two 3D models from scratch in Blender and implemented them in 8th Wall. The user must place the transparent model of the current ruins within the virtual space.

When you touch the screen, it transforms into a digital reconstruction that can be viewed in AR. The reconstruction was based on historical images showing the chapel when it was still intact. This is my first project in Blender/8Th-Wall, and I’m very pleased with the final result.
St. Nicholas Chapel is the oldest surviving building in Hanover. It was first mentioned in a document in 1284 and originally stood outside the city walls. Among other things, it was also used as a place of healing and quarantine. During World War II, the chapel sustained extensive damage from bombing raids and was rebuilt in its current form on Goseriedeplatz in 2013.
