Despite a monument on the Opera Square, the composer Heinrich Marschner has been rather forgotten. Yet his works such as "Der Vampyr" had a strong influence on Romantic opera.

Opernplatz is probably one of the most iconic places in Hanover. Even though everyone knows the square and the opera house, the statue of Heinrich Marschner at the edge of the square doesn’t get much attention. Marschner was a Romantic-era composer who wrote 13 operas. Today, the composer has largely been forgotten. For many, this is undeserved, as he had a direct influence on greats like Richard Wagner with works such as "Der Vampyr."
