International Geographical Mysteries: France

France in Hannover? You can spot traces of French influence all over the city, but especially here in the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen! For one thing, Baroque gardens like these first emerged in France, which is why they’re also called “French gardens.” There’s also the grotto here, which was designed by the French artist Niki de Saint Phalle. Also found in the gardens are pavilions by Louis Remy de la Fosse, a French architect. And finally, France also won the International Fireworks Competition in 1994. This little cache is meant to commemorate that event! The cache is accessible free of charge during the gardens’ opening hours.
