The Hinterbuehne is an open venue for theater, cabaret, and variety shows, located right on Hildesheimer Straße.
The "open stage"
Hinterbuehne first opened its doors in 2006 and has considered itself an “open stage” from the very beginning. The venue provides a performance space for numerous comedians and cabaret artists. The program also features magicians and select spoken-word theater productions.
Flunderboll Theater
In addition, the in-house company Theater Flunderboll’s original productions are right at home on this stage. Theater Flunderboll has been based in Hannover’s Südstadt district since 1987 and frequently presents plays by contemporary authors, though the program also includes staged readings and “pub performances.” The Hinterbuehne also offers a venue for cabaret artists and musical productions that do not have their own stage to perform their art in front of an audience. The artists often come from Hannover and the surrounding area, but those from other cities also find their way to the Hinterbuehne.
Diverse program
The season runs from September through June. During this time, there is a varied lineup of events every weekend. The auditorium seats 80 people, who can round off their evening at the backstage bar after enjoying the show.
