Choreography 40

For four decades, Choreography, the International Choreography Competition, has been transforming Hanover once a year into a global gathering place for up-and-coming choreographers. This makes it the longest-running choreography competition in the world.

From June 11 to 13, 2026, it's time again: 20 up-and-coming choreographers* from thepresent their work in two semi-finals at the Theater am Aegi. They were invited after a preliminary jury selection from up to 400 applications. Any style is welcome, as long as the choreographer*have professional training. Only the imaginative use of space and time, the dance realization of an idea and its transfer to the performers will be judged. The jury will then select the finalists for June 13, 2026.

For the audience, the three days not only offer exciting insights into the current trends in stage dance, they also award an audience prize.

The jury awards four high-caliber prizes, which provide start-up funding for new productions by up-and-coming talent:

· Tanja Liedtke Award for Choreography, Hanover – over 25,000 €

· Dr. Christiane Hackerodt Art Foundation Choreography Award, Hanover – over 10,000 €

· Ruth Schwieger Award for Choreography, Hanover – over 8,000 €

· Condor ChoreoVision Award for Choreography, Hanover – over 5,000 €

There are also production and guest performance prizes.

The internationality of the applicants and the high-caliber jury reflect the high status that choreography enjoys in the international dance scene. There are many dance competitions, but this competition has become a central factor in the national and international dance landscape.
