Volgersweg in Oststadt is getting a colorful makeover! The shopping street, which runs from the main train station to Oststadt, has been given a fresh look with artistically designed trash cans. Two employees from the Hannover City Cleaning Department handled the installation.

The project was initiated and carried out by business owners on Volgersweg, a street affectionately known as “Lindenstraße” by residents of the eastern part of the city. In addition to the street’s residents, the Economic Development Agency of the State Capital of Hanover and aha, the waste management department of the Region Hannover.

Artistic trash can behind the underpass on Volgersweg

Thanks to their bright, colorful designs, the originally drab trash cans provided by aha have become real eye-catchers that brighten up the shopping street. “We were happy to support the project and are delighted that aha can contribute to making Volgersweg more attractive,” says Mathias Quast, head of Hannover’s municipal sanitation department.

The designs on the trash cans were created by artist Arsen Nasibulin, who had previously been involved in the design of the tunnel under Berliner Allee. As part of the project, he then turned his attention to the trash cans on Volgersweg. The cans were sanded down and then painted by him in several layers of acrylic paint. After the trash cans were replaced, the artist signed his works on site.
