Berto Lardera | Ile de France

The sculpture was originally commissioned by France for the World’s Fair in Montreal and created by Berto Lardera (b. 1911 in La Spezia, Italy – d. 1989). The then-director of the State Museum, Harald Seiler, proposed it for Hanover, whereupon it was initially placed across from the State Museum. In 1969, it was the most consistent realization of autonomous sculpture in Hanover’s public space to date. Its abstract form constructs complex three-dimensionality from horizontal and vertical planes and invites the viewer to look through and along it. After being temporarily stored in the courtyard of the Sprengel Museum Hannover, it was reinstalled at its current location in 1998. » Location: Culemannstraße/Friederikenplatz
