Christoph Rust (born in Leipzig in 1953) was commissioned to create this work following a competition held by the August Kestner Museum for a light installation to be integrated into its façade. The challenge was, on the one hand, to incorporate the installation into the intricate symmetry of the honeycomb-like façade modules and, on the other hand, to assert its artistic presence within them. Rust’s concept is both playful and poetic. The first of seven light elements corresponds with the existing honeycombs; it reappears between the sixth and seventh segments, but there as an empty space. After dark, the work illuminates the façade with an electronically controlled sequence—and thus the entire Platz der Menschenrechte 1, which it borders on one side. Other works in Hannover: “Orchid” on Weißekreuzplatz; “Monument for Tatlin” at the beginning of Vahrenwalder Straße. » Location: Platz der Menschenrechte (facade of the August Kestner Museum)
