The steel relief by Erich Hauser (b. 1930 in Tuttlingen – d. 2004) was created as site-specific art for the KUBUS Municipal Gallery. From the very beginning, it has shaped the way the building is perceived and cannot be reduced to a mere ornamental role. While the building itself conveys the order, clarity, and neutrality of an exhibition space even to the outside world through its very name, the artist breaks with convention and transcends boundaries, as if to highlight the autonomy of the art within. From a distance, the object asserts the site’s affiliation with the art world, much like the emblem of a guild. Other works in Hanover (selection): “Stahl 17/87” on Brühlstraße. Within sight is the Aegidienkirche, a memorial to the victims of war and violence since 1952, featuring artistic works by, among others, Kurt Lehmann (“Demut,” 1958) and Dorothee von Windheim (“Schattenlinie,” 1993). » Location: Theodor-Lessing-Platz (facade of the Städtische Galerie KUBUS)
