The big family

Originally installed on Human Rights Square in 1971 as part of the “Street Art Program,” the sculptures of the ensemble “The Large Family” by Eugène Dodeigne (born 1923 in Rouvreux, Belgium) were moved to their current location in 1997 to make room for Ludger Gerdes’ fountain. The title of the work suggests kinship and evokes thoughts of people and personalities—with all their relationships and stories. An imagined social space emerges: shaped by individual emotions and experiences. Other works in Hanover: “Etude I–V” at the Neustadt Cemetery; memorial for the former concentration camp satellite camp in Hanover-Misburg. » Location: Platz der Menschenrechte (next to the Museum August Kestner)
