The façade work by Günter Kämpfe (b. 1914 in Braunschweig – d. 1992) was created as part of the “Street Art Program” and today feels somewhat like a reminiscence, its material radiating the character of past decades. Elements of advertising aesthetics meet form-free design; the seemingly interchangeable elements encourage the viewer to mentally rearrange and expand upon the reduced concrete aesthetic of their location. Within the geometry of the square, the work seems to have been pushed into a corner, where it forms an expressive contrast to the rear of the hotel building, even though both reflect the design practices of past decades. » Location: Theodor-Lessing-Platz (rear of the Maritim Hotel)
