Hans Breder | in between

The sculpture “in between” by Hans Breder (born in 1935 in Herford) was originally created as the “Außenobjekt Hannover” as part of the “Street Art Program,” but fell victim to corrosion and vandalism. Consequently, in 2002 the artist created a new version with a significantly altered form, which found a new home near its original location. In his practice as an artist and educator, Breder was influenced by the interplay of diverse theories and media. This makes the sculpture “in between” appear all the more minimalist at first glance as a pragmatic steel object. Its concentrated effect, however, becomes apparent when one follows the directions, lines, and planes embedded within it—in correspondence with the surrounding architecture and traffic routes, as well as the choice of one’s own vantage point. » Location: Friedrichswall/Willy-Brandt-Allee (in Maschpark)
