The sculpture by Toni Stadler (b. 1888 in Munich – d. 1982) was purchased by the City of Hanover following an exhibition by the Kunstverein and later installed in the Maschteich. It bridges the organic nature of the pond with the designed surroundings of the park. The steps leading down to the water become a viewing platform, the sculpture itself part of a staged scene—and at the same time, a stage is created for the view from the water, with City Hall serving as a monumental backdrop. Stadler’s work is both an alien and a resonant body; the surrounding water becomes a pedestal, a mirror, a source of inspiration, and a spacer. » Location: In the Maschteich (by the stairs behind the New City Hall)
