Erich Hauser | Steel 17/87

The works of Erich Hauser (b. 1930 in Tuttlingen – d. 2004), constructed from steel plates, often derive their impact from the tension created by a variety of directional cues and spatial relationships. The “Steel Angel,” as the people of Hannover colloquially call it, extends 16 meters beyond the median strip. With its complex geometry and reflective surfaces, it suggests connections to and between the surrounding architecture. The object’s high potential for public identification was already evident through initial funding from the citizens, which attracted the involvement of additional sponsors to keep the sculpture in the city following the exhibition “Stahl 2” (Galerie kö 24). Other works in Hannover (selection): Steel relief at the municipal KUBUS Gallery; “Stahlkugelblätter 5/81” in front of the Sprengel Museum. » Location: Brühlstraße (near Andertensche Wiese)
