John Henry | Symphony in Red

Large-scale steel sculptures like this one are characteristic of the work of sculptor John Henry (born 1943 in Lexington, USA). He selected “Symphony in Red” for the central island of Königsworther Platz, a major traffic hub in Hannover. Five multi-lane roads intersect here; the location is almost always noisy, dynamic, and multifaceted. Tossed about like a game of Mikado, the steel rods stacked one on top of the other reflect the complexity of the location and stand up to it—the sculpture becomes a landmark, a point of orientation. It is owned by the Lower Saxony Lottery Foundation, which has made it available to the city of Hanover on permanent loan. » Location: Königsworther Platz (central island)
