Fritz Koenig | Large callsign

The work by Fritz Koenig (born 1924 in Würzburg) was purchased and installed by VGH Versicherungen in connection with its administrative building. A hallmark of the artist’s work is the use of simple geometric forms, even in depictions of the human figure. The work presents itself as a break with no specific thematic content; as a general “Watch out!”, it relates more to the urban space than to the building itself. The sidewalk alongside a heavily trafficked street would invite strolling elsewhere; here, it flanks an institutional no-man’s-land of stately facades and anonymous office windows. In this context, the object, with its menacing massiveness, can also be read as a social commentary. The work is the property of VGH Versicherungen. Incidentally, hidden in the courtyard of the VGH building is a light installation by Joseph Kosuth, a Leibniz quote that corresponds with the one on the Hohen Ufer. » Location: Schiffgraben (in front of the VGH Versicherungen building)
