Horst Antes | Head with twelve eyes

The two paired sculptures by Horst Antes (born 1936 in Heppenheim) were installed by the Brusberg Gallery and later purchased by the city. By being positioned perpendicular to the direction of pedestrian traffic, they structure the path across Georgsplatz along the historic axis. They compel passersby to pause rather than rush through. The multitude of eyes evokes the perspectives of all those whose shared perception brings the city to life. Eyes and hands represent thought and action as fundamental functions of human interaction and can be interpreted as very different appeals, depending on one’s own state of mind.
