The sculpture by Michael F. Otto (born in 1960 in Hamelin) is the only remaining exhibit from the temporary project “Blattschuss,” which featured works by students from the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hannover. By referencing the pictograms of a traffic sign indicating hiking parking lots, the artist suggests a closeness to nature in the heart of the city. In doing so, he enriches his work with further polarities: the genders of the two hikers or their directions of movement. At the same time, he raises the question of our motivation to move through urban space, contrasting conscious experience with purpose-driven traversal. The work is the property of the artist. In the immediate vicinity is the fountain sculpture “L’Air” by Aristide Maillol, one of the first works by an internationally significant artist of classical modernism to be installed in Hannover in 1961. » Location: Georgsplatz
