Robert Schad | In Vent

The installation by Robert Schad (born 1953 in Ravensburg) was commissioned by what was then the Kreissparkasse Hannover to design the public interior space of its headquarters. Despite the sheer volume of steel used, the work appears dynamic, almost organic. Whereas the neighboring installation on Aegidientorplatz (see 8) allows visitors to experience wind through moving elements, Schad succeeds in addressing the theme of wind through static elements. Given the lightness and apparent movement of the objects, it is not surprising that Schad incorporates aspects of dance and choreography, among other things, into his media-based works. The work establishes a framework for movement on site—a space that serves both as a passageway and as the building’s tranquil center—thereby emphasizing the architecture’s transparency. Despite its openness, the installation completely fills its location, allowing no external or overall perspective and drawing the viewer into its center.
