The Hanover-based “total artist” Timm Ulrichs (born in Berlin in 1940) has been making his mark on the city with his art actions since the late 1960s. However, his works are often temporary in nature. The installation is therefore the artist’s only work that is permanently present in the city’s public space. It was initially created as a site-independent piece and was eventually placed in connection with the building of the Sparkassenverband Niedersachsen. The wordplay in the title is typical of Ulrichs’ critical view of language and positions the objects—cast from his own head—somewhere between an abstract memorial and ironic urban design. Originally, a more urban location such as the square around the Marktkirche was planned—at its current site, the installation invites discovery and engagement, compelling viewers to pause. The work is part of the art collection of the Sparkassenverband Niedersachsen. Another work by Timm Ulrichs is located—semi-public and clearly visible through a glass facade—in the foyer of the new VGH building on nearby Warmbüchenkamp: “The Favorite Colors of Lower Saxony” was installed in 2009. » Location: Schiffgraben (next to the Sparkassenverband Niedersachsen)
