"A World of Images"—that is the motto of the new Gallery for Photography (GAF) on the grounds of the ice factory in the Südstadt: photography that takes a critical look at society—photography that transports visitors to places beyond their usual perception.

The GAF shows classics and contemporary works. The focus is on promoting young talent. In addition to the exhibitions, lectures, signing sessions, workshops and panel discussions are also planned. The Blue Hall on the site of the ice factory was chosen as the location for the gallery. The design for the redesign comes from the Hanoverian architecture professor Bernd Rokahr. The approximately 260 square meter gallery offers space for up to 120 pictures, depending on the format.

The GAF is sponsored by the Association for the Promotion of Photography in Hanover (Verein zur Förderung der Fotografie in Hannover e.V.), which, together with Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the FREELENS Association, also organizes the Lumix Festival for Young Photojournalism. Every two years in June, the festival transforms the Expo grounds into a massive photo gallery, which is viewed by more than 30,000 visitors.
