Historical Museum Hanover

The Hannover Historical Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the history of the state capital and the state of Lower Saxony. A tour takes visitors through the city’s development from a medieval market town to the city it is today.
The museum is located on the Hohe Ufer along the Leine River and adjoins the remains of the medieval city wall and the Beginen Tower.

Exhibitions and guided tours

The Historical Museum’s permanent exhibition is currently being redesigned and is therefore closed to the public. However, the Carriage Hall and special exhibitions remain open to visitors.
Lectures and an educational program offer people of all ages the opportunity to experience the city’s history firsthand

Stocks

At the Historical Museum, there are approximately 500,000 cultural artifacts to discover, as well as an enormous collection of over 1.5 million photographs. The collection includes both everyday objects that illustrate the lives of ordinary people and scale models of their homes, as well as items belonging to former rulers, thereby showcasing the contrasting lifestyles of “ordinary people and the elite.”

The Begin Tower

The Beguine Tower is an accessible exhibit dating back to the Middle Ages, with nearly 700 years of city history. On the first Friday of every month, visitors can take a guided tour of the Beguine Tower. The tour provides a wealth of information about Hanover’s history from the Middle Ages to the present day. Because of its significance, the Beguine Tower is also considered one of Hanover’s major attractions.
