Museum Schloss Herrenhausen
The polymath Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646–1716) developed his ideas here in conversation with Electress Sophie (1630–1714) and her daughter Sophie Charlotte (1670–1701). The museum conveys the state of knowledge of that era. It is also regarded as a cross-epochal intellectual edifice. Herrenhausen Palace also serves as a scientific conference center.
Combined entrance area
The ticket office, checkroom and store are located in the entrance area. The Great Garden is accessed via the palace and the Princely Flower Garden. The connecting entrance also provides access to the Arne Jacobsen Foyer and the Herrenhausen Gallery. The entrance to the Day Center, on the other hand, is located to the west of the palace.
What is there to discover?
The east wing, through which visitors enter the museum, is designed in impressive red and gold and represents the creation of the Great Garden and its function in courtly representational culture. The underground connecting corridor offers visitors a unique sight: Fine objects from the Baroque period are exhibited in the dark museum room. The west wing, designed in shades of white and green, tells the story of the palaces and gardens. The castle has a total of 900 square meters of exhibition space.
