The Museum of Textile Art - A unique collection of fabrics ranging from historical garments to haute couture fabrics from all over the world.

Mannequins at the Museum of Textile Art

The museum displays a unique private collection of fabrics featuring traditional and imaginative handicrafts from around the world.
In March 2007, the exhibition opened in the former rooms of an air-raid shelter and subsequently at the Borkowski Gallery in Hannover-Kirchrode.

The textile treasures on display in the museum were brought back by collector Erika Knoop from her many travels—fabrics, scarves, shawls, and dresses from various eras and countries. The exhibition is presented across two floors and approximately 400 square meters, displayed freely—hanging on the walls, serving as room dividers, draped over mannequins—with only the most precious exhibits displayed behind glass.

Perhaps the oldest pieces include a wall hanging from 1670 from a Venetian weaving mill and a 400-year-old Venetian priest's robe.

Probably the most valuable item on display is an ice-blue silk brocade with silver embroidery, made in St. Petersburg around 1880.

In addition to spectacular wedding dresses, the collection also features original dresses and costumes from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.
They are displayed among floor-to-ceiling room dividers made of haute couture fabrics.
