Restaurants
Hannover’s Michelin-starred restaurants are synonymous with culinary excellence, creative menus, and a unique dining experience. In addition to these award-winning establishments, a diverse scene of gourmet restaurants has emerged in Hannover. Together, they demonstrate that fine dining today no longer has to be just an exclusive ritual lasting a few hours. More and more top chefs are reinventing themselves, developing modern concepts, and thereby making Michelin-starred cuisine more accessible to a wider range of diners.
The state capital is home to several Michelin-starred restaurants. Leading the way are Jante and Votum, both of which have been awarded two stars. Marie on Wedekindplatz and Handwerk on Altenbekener Damm also each have one star and represent Hannover’s diversity.
In addition, the city offers a vibrant selection of gourmet restaurants that, while not Michelin-starred, still impress with their fine cuisine and innovative concepts. Whether it’s classic haute cuisine, modern interpretations, or regional specialties—Hanover’s culinary scene is as diverse as the city itself.
How Michelin-starred restaurants are reinventing themselves
A visit to a Michelin-starred restaurant in Hanover is traditionally associated with special menus and a festive atmosphere—an experience that lasts for many hours. Now, however, Hannover’s top chefs are demonstrating that fine dining can also be interpreted in a modern and versatile way. In addition to classic tasting dinners, new formats are emerging that are more spontaneous and flexible, yet still meet the same high standards of quality. This allows even guests with limited time or first-time visitors to Michelin-starred cuisine to discover the world of gourmet restaurants.
The Jante, a two-star restaurant, introduced a new concept in 2025: “Sip & Bite.” In the restaurant’s bar, guests can take a seat without a reservation and pair a selection of wines with small, luxurious bites. In doing so, this top-tier restaurant is opening its doors to a broader audience and demonstrating that Michelin-starred cuisine can be enjoyed in ways other than just long tasting menus.
