2027 Handball World Championship: Here Are the Upcoming Dates in Hannover

The 30th IHF Men's Handball World Championship will take place in Germany from January 13 to 31, 2027. Matches will be played in Munich, Stuttgart, Kiel, Magdeburg, Hanover, and Cologne. Hanover will play a special role: The ZAG arena will host main round matches from January 20 to 25, 2027.

The teams that qualified from Main Round Groups III and IV will compete in Hannover. Group III consists of the top three teams from Preliminary Round Groups E and F, while Group IV consists of the top three teams from Groups G and H.

Schedule for the 2027 Handball World Championship in Hannover

For the main round, games are generally scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. Changes to the schedule are still possible. Therefore, please check the organizer’s latest information again before your visit.

Which teams will be competing in the 2027 World Handball Championship in Hannover?

The specific matches you’ll be able to see in Hannover will depend on how the preliminary round plays out. The top three teams from each of Groups E through H will qualify for the two main round groups in Hannover.

In these preliminary round groups, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Iceland, and Slovenia—among others—will compete for a spot in the main round. This gives Hannover the chance to face off against some of the world’s strongest handball nations in high-profile matches.

The German national team, on the other hand, is taking a different path through the tournament: Germany will start in Munich and, if it qualifies, will play its main round in Cologne.
