Road traffic
In the Hanover city area, road closures along the course are to be expected from approx. 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the Sunday of the marathon.
During the event, the main station can only be accessed via the following routes:
- Via the Westschnellweg onto Bremer Damm to Königsworther Platz. From there, take Arndtstraße to Herschelstraße. Then turn left into Kurt-Schumacher-Straße to the west side of the main station.
- Access via Hamburger Allee and Rundestraße is also possible, but leads to longer waiting times.
- It is possible to approach from the east via Marienstraße, continuing along Berliner Allee, over the Raschplatzhochbrücke bridge and then through Rundestraße.
- The east and north sides of the station are only accessible to a limited extent.
Passage points
Due to the density of the field of runners, only a very small number of vehicles can be allowed through at each of the established passing points. Longer waiting times are therefore to be expected and it is recommended that you use the direct access options offered, e.g. to the main station or the detour routes.

The light rail trains, with the exception of lines 10 and 17, are operating without restrictions. During the event (8:00 a.m. – approx. 4:00 p.m.), light rail line 10 will travel via Humboltstraße through the tunnel toward the main station, while line 17 will terminate at the Glocksee depot. Both lines will resume service from the station starting at approximately 4:00 p.m.
The affected bus lines will terminate outside the event area between 08:00 and 17:00.
Getting There and Back with Üstra
To ensure that both participants and spectators can travel to and from the running event comfortably, Üstra is running additional and longer trams. For runners and crew members, travel on public transportation in the Hanover region is free.
Combined ticket for participants and crew
As in previous years, a combined ticket agreement is in effect for the 34th ADAC Hannover Marathon. On the respective event day—Saturday, April 11, 2026, or Sunday, April 12, 2026—runners can use all buses, trains, S-trains, and regional trains (RB, RE) in second class, as well as the on-demand sprinti service, throughout the day in Zones ABC. Personalized registration confirmations (including printouts or mobile tickets) and race bibs serve as valid tickets. Designated volunteers will receive crew passes and can use these as tickets on both days of the event. This allows participants and crew to travel to and from the event conveniently and in an environmentally friendly manner.
Additional journeys and longer light rail services
On Sunday, April 12, 2026, more three-car trains will be in service on light rail lines 1, 4, 7, and 9, providing more seating for passengers. In addition, many lines in the downtown area will run more frequently thanks to the use of additional trains. In total, around 50 additional Üstra employees will be on duty on marathon day to ensure that the event is a success in every respect.
Further traffic measures in the light rail area
Line 10 will be suspended on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from approximately 10:45 a.m. to approximately 4:45 p.m. As with the so-called “Nachtstern” service, the route will be served by Line 12. Trains will run from and to the “Glocksee” stop via the tunnel route to the underground “Hauptbahnhof” station.
