About the International Fireworks Competition
Renowned fireworks artists from all over the world transform the sky above the Great Garden into a glowing sea of flowers.
The International Fireworks Competition at the Herrenhausen Gardens is an exciting cultural spectacle for the whole family.
A supporting program featuring live music, cabaret, dance, and theater sets the mood for visitors and celebrates the home countries of the pyrotechnicians.
The dates for the 2022 International Fireworks Competition: May 28, June 10, August 20, September 3, September 17
The International Fireworks Competition made its debut in 1991, making it the first of its kind in Germany and one of the most popular. Over the course of five summer evenings, the world’s best pyrotechnicians compete in the Großer Garten.
Supporting program
Before the countdown to “ignition” begins, visitors are treated to a fantastic spectacle featuring live music, street performers, cabaret, and theater—all tailored to the participating country. As soon as security has cleared the rear section of the Great Garden, the show begins, and the first star twinkles in the sky…
Fireworks display
The excitement builds as the fireworks begin.
In front of the illuminated hedges, people cast elegant silhouettes, and a sense of eager anticipation fills the air—until the first burst of fireworks lights up the garden ornaments. Again and again, cascades of purple, emerald green, or violet plunge into the depths, while fountains shoot up to impressive heights at lightning speed, only to disintegrate here with a loud bang into golden stardust and rain down sparkling.
The elite pyrotechnics teams create unique, dramatically sophisticated displays—meticulously synchronized with the music. A spectacular show. Breathtaking. Unforgettable. On the fifth and final day of the competition, the jury will select the winner, and visitors can look forward to an exciting awards ceremony.
