Magical Worlds of Light at the Zoo

Thousands of lights, artistic installations, glowing animal figures, and impressive displays make the Erlebnis-Zoo shine brightly in the evenings during “ZooLights.” In collaboration with the light festival specialist Lumagica, the zoo is transformed into a sparkling, colorful, and enchanting winter wonderland.

More than 750 illuminated objects, interactive light stations, and lovingly staged photo spots, as well as 20,000 meters of string lights, bring the zoo’s themed areas to life. Along the roughly 2-kilometer-long path through the zoo, glowing flamingos and meerkats captivate visitors, a peacock spreads its colorful tail, lions flash their glittering teeth, and illuminated moose impress with their sheer size. Magical patterns pulse across the cave walls by the Zambezi River and the walls of the Jungle Palace. And then there’s the walk-through light train and the hot-air balloon that lights up the night sky. And isn’t that even a unicorn glowing over there?

A special highlight: At numerous interactive stations, visitors can bring the light installations to life themselves through touch and movement and become part of the show. For example, the chameleon in the tree and the dragonfly on the leaf change color, wolves howl, and polar bears transform their appearance. In addition, two “Sound to Light” shows delight visitors, with the lights dancing in a colorful choreography set to music.
