Fête de la Musique

Hannover Celebrates Fête de la Musique 2026

A packed program on June 21, 2026: On numerous stages—both indoors and outdoors—ambitious musicians will bring the sounds of music to Hannover’s city center.

Fête de la Musique

The program covers all genres of music - from jazz, classical and soul to rock, pop, electro and more.

What is the Fête de la Musique?

Every year on June 21, hundreds of musicians descend on the city center and turn it into a stage. Bands, choirs, soloists, and orchestras—including both rising stars and established celebrities—perform at nearly 40 venues. The “Fête de la Musique,” which began in France in 1982 as a festival of street music, is now celebrated around the world. The world’s largest music festival always takes place at the start of summer, on the longest day of the year and during the shortest night. Through it, people celebrate the art form of music in all its diversity and welcome the summer. People come together, make music, perform for free, and mostly outdoors.

The "Fête de la Musique" thrives on the commitment of everyone: the musical citizens, the music-listening citizens, the music-promoting citizens, in short: the music-loving citizens. So everyone is called upon to take part. The worldwide festival of international understanding, tolerance and cosmopolitanism is the drumbeat at the beginning of summer.

At around 10.45 pm, "Der Mond ist aufgegangen" (The moon has risen) is traditionally sung as a big night song on the stage in front of the main station. All visitors are cordially invited to come to the choir stage and sing along.
