Recognition of foreign qualifications

The IHK’s recognition advisory service is open to anyone seeking guidance, regardless of their professional background. Since the beginning of 2015, the IHK has also been providing advice on bridging programs and compensatory measures in cases where a foreign qualification is only partially equivalent. The IHK Hannover is responsible for the evaluation and recognition of foreign professional qualifications in the fields of industry, trade, and services within the IHK regions of Hannover and Braunschweig. It conducts equivalence assessments in accordance with the Professional Qualifications Assessment Act (BQFG) and issues the corresponding decisions.

The recognition of a foreign professional qualification is an important step toward having one’s qualifications officially recognized in Germany and improving career prospects. As part of the process, officials assess the extent to which the qualification obtained abroad is comparable to a corresponding German reference occupation.
