Sustainable degree program

Environmental meteorology

Environmental metrology

This bachelor's program, which is unique in Germany, focuses on physical and chemical processes in the atmosphere.

In the bachelor’s program in “Environmental Meteorology,” Leibniz University Hannover combines the fundamentals of meteorology with a strong focus on environmental aspects and interdisciplinary training in the fields of environmental science and environmental engineering.

The program examines the conditions and processes in the atmosphere that are caused by human activity. It focuses on topics such as the urban climate and renewable energy. It also covers aspects of biometeorology and agricultural meteorology to help students understand the relationships between climate, weather, soil, plants, and animals.

In addition to a solid foundation in meteorology, mathematics, physics, and engineering, the curriculum places a strong emphasis on numerical and experimental meteorology in the lower atmosphere, particularly the atmospheric boundary layer. This course lays the groundwork for the master’s program in Environmental Engineering.
The program is offered in collaboration with the Technical University of Braunschweig and the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. Through this partnership, students benefit from the diverse meteorological offerings of the three universities.

All courses (with the exception of fieldwork) are held on the Leibniz University Hannover campus. If necessary, courses offered by partner universities can be streamed via videoconference to the Leibniz University Hannover campus.
