Smart Cities Model Project

On April 21, the “Restart #HANnovativ” project was officially launched. This makes the city part of the “Smart Cities Model Projects” initiative of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development, and Construction. The federal government aims to support municipalities in their digital transformation through this initiative.
With a budget of over 13 million euros, investments will be made in digital and smart concepts over the next five years.

Ten fields of action

Restart: #HANnovativ

In the coming years, the Smart City will focus on ten different areas of activity, which are also reflected in the design of “Restart #HANnovativ”:
• Data & Technology•
Public Good & Economy•
Home•
Culture•
Mobility & Identity•
Living
Space• Health•
Diversity•
Learning and Democracy

These areas should be seen as the umbrella of the concept and at the same time represent the connection between the digital and analog worlds.

In the heart of the city center

The concept focuses on downtown Hannover. The city aims to address challenges such as climate change and its social consequences through smart solutions. This involves the use of digital infrastructure, including sensors, secure networks, data storage systems, and meaningful datasets.

The project will also include cutting-edge technologies that the community can engage with and test. City residents and other interested parties are invited to get involved in order to find the best possible solution for Hannover. Under the name “HannoverMit(te)Gestalten,” the project will address both the physical layout and the content of the city center.
