The FHM Campus Hannover is centrally located in the old cookie factory, near Lister Meile. The state-recognized, private University of Applied Sciences for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses (FHM) in Hannover is one of a total of eight FHM campuses in Germany. The students in Hannover are pursuing degrees in the fields of business, media and human resources, health, and social sciences.
Through its accredited bachelor’s, master’s, MBA, and doctoral programs, FHM trains professionals and executives across Germany, equipping them with business expertise for the small and medium-sized enterprise sector. A distinctive feature of the practice-oriented, compact degree programs at FHM is the small class sizes. These facilitate close collaboration between faculty and students throughout their studies. Joint events foster a network that benefits both alumni and current students from the very beginning.
The range of courses offered by FHM includes traditional full-time courses, part-time courses for working people and dual and trial study models developed in cooperation with industry, as well as distance learning courses in the fields of business, media and human resources/health/social affairs. Most of the traditional full-time courses take place in attendance phases on the FHM campus. The full-time degree courses generally integrate a six-month practical phase, the Study in Practice (SIP). Students can spend the SIP phase in a company in Germany or abroad.
In addition to full-time study, the FHM has been offering part-time courses in the Bachelor's, Master's, MBA and doctoral segments for years. These combine attendance days, online lectures and self-study on the basis of a blended learning concept. Students log onto an e-learning platform on the internet and take part in virtual lectures. The attendance days are already fixed for reliable long-term planning.
In addition to various dual study programs, in which students complete an academic degree and at the same time a traditional vocational training program within four years, there is also the trial model. The Trial Degree in Crafts Management (B.A.) uniquely combines the advantages of dual vocational training and a subsequent master craftsman qualification with an academic degree. Depending on the respective trade, the trial study program takes approximately four and a half years. In addition, the FHM offers a very flexible study model in the form of distance learning, which allows students to balance work, family and studies.
In addition to entrepreneurial thinking and action, the Fachhochschule des Mittelstands supports holistic personal development. All courses are structured according to a competence diagnosis with four areas of competence (general business competence, specific professional competence, personal and social competence as well as activity and action competence) and therefore qualify students holistically for entry into a junior or management position. Current studies show that employers are attaching increasing importance to interdisciplinary skills. Social and personal skills are often decisive for success in professional life, despite equal professional aptitude.
The FHM teaches key skills such as communication skills, teamwork and initiative. Students are prepared for a wide range of challenges during their practical studies (SiP), as part of student projects and through advanced lectures.
