NORD/LB is the leading universal bank in northern Germany. As the state bank for the federal states of Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, it supports the public sector with municipal financing and acts as a central bank for the Sparkassen in these two states as well as in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

As a commercial bank, Nord/LB offers a comprehensive range of financial services to private, corporate, and institutional clients, as well as public-sector clients. In addition to aircraft financing, Nord/LB is primarily active in the energy, infrastructure, industrial, and real estate sectors.

The Nord/LB headquarters in Hannover, which opened in June 2002.

Nord/LB’s striking headquarters on Friedrichswall opened in 2002. The 17-story building houses approximately 1,500 employees. Designed by Behnisch, Behnisch & Partner, the building was awarded the Lower Saxony State Prize for Architecture in the same year it opened. In addition to three small ponds in the courtyard, the office complex also features a row of restaurants and shops.

Nord/LB looks back on a tradition dating back more than a century. In 1970, Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale was formed through the merger of four predecessor institutions: Braunschweigische Staatsbank (founded in 1765), the Hannoversche Landeskreditanstalt (founded in 1840), the Niedersächsische Landesbank Girozentrale (founded in 1917), and the Niedersächsische Wohnungskreditanstalt Stadtschaft (founded in 1918). In 1992, as part of a state treaty between the states of Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, Nord/LB also assumed the role of state bank for Saxony-Anhalt.
