The public insurance company is not only an insurer and employer, but also a sponsor of projects and programs in the social, cultural, and sports sectors.
VGH, as it exists today, was formed in 1957 through the merger of the two oldest insurance companies in Lower Saxony: the Landschaftliche Brandkasse Hannover, founded in 1750, and the Provinzial Lebensversicherung Hannover (1918).
The VGH headquarters are located in Hannover, near the Aegi and right next to Nord/LB.
VGH offers a wide range of property and casualty insurance and personal insurance products for private customers, industrial and commercial enterprises, agricultural businesses, local governments, and churches, and is now the largest insurer in Lower Saxony. Approximately 4,600 employees work directly or indirectly for the regional market leader, including about 450 VGH agents and their staff. Together with their second distribution partner, the Sparkassen, they form a statewide service network serving approximately 1.8 million customers and over five million policies.
In 2000, VGH Versicherungen marked the 250th anniversary of the Landschaftliche Brandkasse by establishing the VGH Foundation as a private foundation under civil law. The foundation’s goal is to support projects in the fields of science, culture—with a focus on historic preservation, literature, visual arts, and museum education—and philanthropy within the business area of VGH Versicherungen.
